The Gastronomical Jewelry Box - Slice Jinqiao

The Gastronomical Jewelry Box - Slice Jinqiao

Neri&Hu’s design merges old and new world ideas of the “market” into a design that reflects the human experience: a “slice of life”. In the old world, the marketplace was a swirl of activity, stalls filled with fresh produce, spices, and meats. In the new world, the food shopping experience is a study of sterile efficiency, as seen in the typical grocery store.

The design concept was based on a jewelry box, so that shopping, eating, and the display of goods are the “jewels.” The space is divided into three jewelry boxes: a two-story marketplace and two casual dining rooms.
