The Gastronomical Jewelry Box - Slice Qingpu

The Gastronomical Jewelry Box - Slice Qingpu

Neri&Hu’s design merges old and new world ideas of the “market” into a design that reflects the human experience: a “slice of life”. In the old world, the marketplace was a swirl of activity, stalls filled with fresh produce, spices, and meats. In the new world, the food shopping experience is a study of sterile efficiency, as seen in the typical grocery store.

The space is divided into three distinct rooms: a central cashier, a marketplace, and a deli. The central area is the entry, featuring wooden screens that filter natural light. The market is flanked by tables and chairs creating a figurative city street.
